About Me

This is me and my family at North Litchfield Beach in South Carolina.

I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Classical Studies in 1991 and from Western Carolina University with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1995. I began teaching in 1995 at the old Clyde Elementary (now the home of Central Haywood High School). This is my twenty-third year of teaching (all of which have been at Clyde Elementary) and my sixth year teaching third grade.

I am married to Jon Serenius, a 5th-grade teacher at Jonathan Valley Elementary, and we have three children. Our daughter, Anna, is 19 years old and is a sophomore at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Our oldest son, Thomas, is 14 years old and is a freshman at Tuscola High School. And our youngest son, Max, is seven years old and is a second grader.

Some of my favorite things to do in my free time include reading books recommended by Anna and Thomas; drinking good coffee at a local coffee shop on the weekends with my husband; going to the movies with Thomas; talking on the phone with Anna; and playing Candy Land with Max.
